Put a Bow on It

There's something about a classic bow that can turn the most simple of things into something lovely. It's no wonder you can find bows on handbags, gloves, tops, shoes (you get the point) everywhere these days. So why not carry the trend on to hair accessories? By placing the bow at the bottom of a bun or half bun, it makes a humdrum hairstyle a little more unique and fun. The problem is, most hair bows are made for children and aren't quite big enough for adults. But have no fear; we have an incredibly simple no-sew version of a bow that can be made in minutes.

What you'll need: Fabric scraps, scissors, alligator hair clips, hot glue gun
Step 1: Cut the fabric for your main bow color to about 8 inches by 10 inches.
Step 2: Fold your top edge down a third of the way and place glue dots along the upper line.
Step 3: Take your unfolded bottom edge up to meet the folded down side. Press into the glue dots to make a fabric tube.
Step 4: Fold the tube with the seem inside into thirds again (lengthwise) to create a tubed tube.
Step 5: Pinch the center of your new rectangle with the open tube ends on the top and bottom.
Step 6: Bring the bottom edge up and glue to your center pinch, making an accordion fold.
Step 7: Bring the top edge down to also meet the center pinch with a glue dot, completing your accordion.
Step 8: Secure any loose edges with glue. Your bow should look like the one above at this point.
Step 9: Make a tube of fabric from a coordinating color using steps 2 and 3 from above but starting with a piece 4 inches by 6 inches. Wrap the tube around the center of your bow and secure with glue.
Step 10: Glue an alligator clip onto the back of your bow with a pencil or similar item inside the clip. This will make it so the glue doesn't dry with the clip sealed shut!
And there you go! A simple way to dress up any thrown together hair style.

    1. Ha! If only it said "I was on Wheel..." instead of "I tried out..." We're still in the running though so you never know! ;)
