One of my favorite Christmas Eve traditions, besides our family games of course, was reading The Polar Express with my sisters as we were all tucked in to bed. We would drag mattresses into one room so that we could all sleep in the same room. Reading that story together helped keep the magic of Christmas alive long into our teenage years.
I like to keep that tradition now with my own kids, reminding them that seeing isn't always believing. (And, lets be honest, they mostly love the cool train pictures at their young ages. My son really hopes that the Polar Express will stop at our house in the night.)
Christmas Morning, we have a big brunch at my parents' house once we've all opened our gifts. It's a great way to get the extended family together after being broken into our smaller groups in the early morning. Nobody can resist my dad's incredible pancakes! We typically receive a new dance game on Playstation so we like to bring that out while everyone eats to get people dancing around too.

Every year on Christmas Eve, my mom reads aloud "Why the Chimes Rang," a short story about a boy named Pedro who makes a tremendous personal sacrifice to give a beautiful gift to the Christ Child. It's a story her parents once read to her and it touches me every year.
On Christmas Day, we recently started a new tradition. Rather than another heavy holiday meal, we choose a different cuisine for Christmas dinner. This year, we're doing Korean with this amazing recipe for grilled pork.
What traditions do you continue each year? If you don't have any now, pick one to start this year! It's never too late to create great memories that can be looked forward to every year.
And for one of our sillier tradition, we both love creating classic Elf Yourself videos. Our kids love seeing their loved ones dancing around in silly elf bodies to Christmas music. Here's an early Christmas gift to all of you, complete with "dance faces."
